A month ago we adopted the dog Hope. We live in Holland and Hope was rescued by the volunteers of this shelter. The proces of adoption went very agreeable. Kris did her very best to answer all my questions about Hope en kept me posted about the circumstances en condition of Hope while waiting for suitable transport to Holland. Hope needed some medical care while she was in the shelter, Kris kept me posted as wel. She even sent me medical results from the vet. At some point I had a moment of doubt about the adoption of Hope concerning our sheep for example. It was possible to discuss this issue with Kris freely. I have never experienced a moment of pressure or persuasion of any kind. The volunteers of this shelter only want the very best for the animal, and I could feel that. I experienced the adoption proces as reliable, overcast and caring for both the dog and the adopter. Now, 3 weeks later we enjoy our new homemate Hope, a dog who is doing her very best to adjust to the life in a complet new setting and we love her. And even now I can feel the caring of the Kris: happy with every update and always there for information or advice when needed.
Would recommend: Yes
Anything to add: I know for sure: our next dog wil be adopted from this shelter.

A place to seek shelter, comfort en care for stray dogs that are in need of help……

Isn’t that what you wish for, when you see or think of them struggling out in the streets  or remote outback places?

Let me tell you the story of my dog Kate

In the harsh life of a Greek stray dog, trying to survive and facing  many dangers, there is this little ‘safe haven’ in Markopoulo Porto Rafti. A shelter at wich four increadable women take care of dogs that need help for all kind of reasons.

Two years ago, I fell in love with a picture of a dog on the internet and was also deeply touched by her story. This is how I got in touch with Kris and learned she has fed this dog out in the fields when she was a puppy and now rescued this dog because she was in danger of being killed by man. So she took her to the safety of the shelter.

I adopted Kate, a lovely mix Greek shepherd girl, two years old. Kate has known the harsh life of living in the outback and streets, without the help and care of Kris, she would not have survived.

Kate came to Holland and that was a big change for her. She needed time to feel safe, confident and trust us, especially my partner, because of her bad experiences with man.

Kate is a gentle, sensitive and intelligent dog who loves to do things with ‘her human’. And she is so loyal. I am so happy to have her in my life and I love her deeply.

After the adoption Kris kept in touch with me so we could discuss how Kate was doing in her new life in Holland. This shows how responsable these ladies feel about the dogs that are ‘under their  wings’. This is amazing care.

Well, now, two years later, I have visited the shelter two times and I have also adopted a secound dog from the shelter.

And because of the frequent calls, What’sApps and emails in the past two years I feel pretty close and connected tot his shelter and this team.

I can tell you with my hand on my hart: these ladies deserve the utmost respect fort the hudge task they have taken upon their shoulders. Every day they stand up for the strays, take care of the ones in the shelter and even so many out in the streets in need of help.

They try to ease the suffering, the cruelty and the ignorance towards these animals. I can tell you, this is NOT easy AT ALL, because they care down to their deepest fibres.

And there are also the never ending worries about the costs for food, medication, vet bills and other expences. Money is always short and every euro is turned twice before it is spent.

What can I say….. I have taken this shelter and these ladies in my hart and I have great respect for them. And above all, I trust them completely.

So don’t hesitate: ….. adopt……. donate…..,

they can use all the help they can get for helping the strays in Markopoulo Porto Rafti.

The shelter gets called often to take in pups abandoned around the area in Porto Rafti. Their cuteness helps them find homes
